DETAILS:
PROJECT: R.A.K.E., an outreach of the Ground Zero Youth Ministry,
through the generous donations of local businesses
and individuals, will provide free labor to help 29 low income families and
senior citizens in our area with free home repairs. Teens will sleep at the church,
shower at the Southern Chester County YMCA and contribute nearly 2,500 hours of
community service to in-need families right in their own backyard.
One crew will be tearing down a dilapidated shed for a woman in Oxford. Five other crews will be in the Oxford area to work at different sites; two crews will be installing wheel chair ramps, one crew will be fixing windows and installing a dishwasher, one crew will be cleaning and the last crew will be doing other tasks for another homeowner such as trimming bushes, fixing mailbox etc. Another team of students will be in Jennersville roofing a home and adding handrails to a previously installed wheel chair ramp. We’ll have a crew remodeling a bathroom and fixing plumbing leaks for an elderly woman in Lincoln University. Just down the road, a crew will be working on over pouring a dangerous set of concrete steps. We are sending three crews to West Grove. One will be patching a ceiling and installing an exhaust vent. Another crew will be fixing the plumbing in a sink. The third crew will be repairing a deck and working on a sump pump.
Sixteen other crews will be traveling around from Nottingham to Lincoln University, West Grove to Avondale and Kennett Square to Parkesburg assisting families over the course of the week with free repairs to their homes. Projects include constructing concrete steps and sidewalk, electrical and plumbing work, remodeling a bathroom, and constructing a ramp.
