DETAILS:
PROJECT: R.A.K.E., an outreach of the Ground Zero Youth Ministry, through the
generous donations of local businesses
and individuals, will provide free labor to help over 30 low income families and
senior citizens in our area with free home repairs. Teens will sleep at the
church, shower at Solanco High School and contribute nearly 2,100 hours of
community service to in-need families right in their own backyard.
One crew will be building a shed for an elderly woman in Nottingham. Just down the street another team of students will be tearing down a rotted porch, building a new one and doing some plumbing work. We’ll have a crew in Oxford replacing dangerous windows that often fall shut without warning for a single mother of five girls. Two crews will be working for single mother in Lincoln University painting, spackling drywall, replacing her porch roof, doing some electrical work and capping leaking window sills. A crew will be working in Jennersville repairing a few roof leaks, replacing rotted flooring & building a landing and stairs as an emergency exit for an elderly woman. We are sending four crews to Parkesburg. One will be installing a new kitchen floor & repairing plumbing & doing some electrical work for a single mother of four. The other three will be replacing a rotted porch, painting, installing a laundry room, and upgrading the electrical panel for a 59 year old grandmother and her 13 year old grandson.
Twelve other crews will be traveling around Southern Chester County from Parkesburg to Kennett Square and Avondale to Kirkwood assisting two to four families each over the course of the weekend with free repairs to their homes. Projects include constructing a 50’ wheel chair ramp and sidewalk, constructing a 20’ wheel chair ramp, and patching leaky roofs.
